Services that help a person gain a better understanding of competitive, integrated employment opportunities in their community.
Exploration activities and experiences strengthen a person’s knowledge, interests and preferences so they can make informed decisions about competitive employment.
Employment exploration includes:
1. Individualized educational activities
2. Learning opportunities
3. Work experiences
Additional related services identified in the person’s coordinated services and supports plan (CSSP).
Requires direct contact
Educational visits to community businesses for insights on companies and job opportunities.
– Career education activities focused on specific occupations and work options.
– Ongoing counseling about jobs and careers of interest.
– Peer mentoring with employed individuals with disabilities in competitive jobs.
– Job shadowing and try-out experiences in various fields.
– Employment support groups, such as job clubs.
– Individualized work experiences, including volunteer roles.
– Education on post-secondary opportunities, community resources, and transportation services.
– In-service transportation assistance. – Progress review and reporting meetings.
Does not require direct contact
Benefit fact gathering, review, and analysis to assess interactions with employment.
– Planning and coordination for assistive technology needs (e.g., ergonomic workstations, magnifiers, speech-to-text software).
– Planning and coordination for adaptive accommodations (e.g., modified tasks, flexible schedules, telecommuting).
